Flynn stars in this action-packed historical drama as Jeb Stuart, the
famed Southern cavalryman of the Civil War. When he arrives at
West Point to become a cadet, he creates quite a stir with his dashing
charm and rugged individualism. Soon he makes friends with fellow
cadet George Armstrong Custer (Ronald Reagan). Together they view
for the affections of the feisty and beautiful Kit Carson Halliday
(Olivia DeHavilland). Meanwhile both in and outside of the classroom,
political turmoil is brewing. One of the cadets, Rader (Van
Heflin), is a secret follower of radical abolitionist John Brown.
Eventually, his political activities get him expelled from the Point.
After graduation, the question of
abolition comes up again as both Stuart and Custer are assigned to a
remote outpost in Kansas to combat Brown's followers and come to terms
with their own feelings about slavery.
